Grow herbs indoors with these tips!

Grow herbs indoors with these tips!

If you live in an urban area, living space is scarce, property prices are high and it can be difficult to grow herbs. Fortunately, little pots and a windowsill can provide all the conditions needed for some tasty herb to thrive.

Here are some ideas to help you get started:

  1. Garden in little pots

If you have a window sill you can grow herbs, there's no need to buy any special containers – just fill a little pot with soil, add a plant and it's ready to produce leaves and fruits. If the plant is like oregano, thyme or basil it will need "sugar" (or compost) for its roots to grow and produce more leaves. Use half an onion or some other food in order to raise the pH of the soil.

  1. Plant in containers

If you have plants that require a lot of space and can be planted outside, you'll need something that allows growth and a long life – for this reason it makes sense to look for containers made of clay or plastic. With these plants, the plant can have a long life span (3-5 years) even if you plant them in tiny pots. There are two ways to give the desired height: either increase the size of the pot or insert something like a stick into the soil. It's up to you – there's no need to do both.

  1. Plant them in the garden

If you live in a yard, the most natural thing to do is to add some herbs to the ground and keep them with care. Be sure to water regularly and keep deer away.

  1. Put them on your desk

It's always good to have some fresh herbs in your office, even if you have a coffee machine with remote control. Just add a small pot of soil, plant an herb and keep it for as long as you need. Also try placing it on a windowsill, near an open window or in your kitchen – fresh herbs will delight all those who pass by.

  1. Garden in your wardrobe

A wardrobe is one of the most favourable places to grow herbs – it's full of moisture and warmth, two factors that can help you to create a perfect space where you can add some plants and make some aromatic herbs. It's also quite easy to grow: just place the plants right next to each other, but spaced out.

  1. Hang them on the balcony

If you have a balcony or porch there's no need not to try growing some plants there! Choose a location that receives plenty of sun and is easy for watering – after all, it's better if you don't have to go far from your home.

  1. Grow them in your kitchen

You can enjoy the aroma of herbs for longer by putting them on a windowsill or a kitchen ledge. The only thing you'll have to do is regularly water the plants, make sure they get enough light, and care for them every day.

  1. Put one in your bedroom

If you live in a city apartment and need to grow herbs inside, place them next to windows or near large open spaces – they may surprise you with their fragrance when you wake up from the night or just when you're waking up from a nap! If you have an old terracotta pot, it will work perfectly well for growing these plants.

  1. Grow them on your desk

In addition to having a pleasant fragrance, herbs like rosemary, basil and sage also have medicinal properties. Just add one or two small pots on your desk next to your computer – you'll be able to enjoy looking at them and use their leaves in cooking too.

  1. In the bathroom or laundry room

If you have a corner of space or wall in the bathroom or laundry room, you can find it a use: just add some plants that match well with this environment. After all, it's right there where you'll freshen up after a shower or bath, so why not make the most of that spot?

  1. In the baseboard heating system

With this technique you can avoid cold feet every winter – just place pots containing herbs in your radiator. If you find yourself with a fire burning, add some leaves and make a little basket out of wire. Soon enough your toes will be happy and so will you! Make sure not to let the plants get too wet.
